Hexter Hawks November 2024 Newsletter
Message from the President

Welcome to November, Hexter Hawks!

Thank you for another AWESOME turn out at the Hexter Howl this year! The costumes were spooktacular, the music grooOOoovy, and fun was had by all! Thank you to our Chair Person, Rachel Yockey, for your hard work in putting this event together. It was a HOWLing success!

I want to take a moment to recognize the volunteers who helped make this event a success.

Kirk Graham and the Dad's Club for doing the heavy lifting and helping us set up and break down the event. Keith Dodson, our VP of Volunteers for making sure every volunteer shift was manned before the event and during the event.

And an EXTRA special thanks to our Room Reps, for not only decorating all the spectacular class room doors, but helping fill those shifts, and getting the word out!

Last but not least, thank you to our feeder pattern schools, specifically Bryan Adams, and Hill for always providing a helping hand where needed.

As you can see, it takes a village to run these events, and without your time, we wouldn't be able to do it year-after-year!

November is a busy month again, as we look forward to Veteran's Day, and Thanksgiving Break. Make sure you have subscribed to our event calendar in Membership Toolkit, so you always know what's coming up.

Until next month!

Thank you to our Volunteers!

Big shout out to all the wonderful volunteers that helped run the Hexter Howl this past weekend. This fun event takes over 250 parents, students and community groups volunteering their time to ensure everyone has the best Howl experience.  Moving on from the Howl, please watch for details on how you can help at other Hexter events.

If you have completed a VOLY check for 2024-2025 school year, please be on the lookout for emails from dallasisd@volynow.org.  These emails have information on volunteering opportunities at Hexter during the week.  They will sometimes get pushed to your junk or spam folders.

Quick reminder, any volunteer hours completed should be logged under the volunteer section located in your membership tool kit account.

Volunteer of the Month

Our Volunteer of the Month is Susie Burkybile! Susie is our Hexter room parent coordinator, but she doesn’t stop volunteering her time there.  Susie also helps at events throughout the year and raises her hand to help when there is a need.  Here are a few words from her.

I dedicate my personal time to Hexter because I enjoy volunteering. It brings me great joy to see parents, families, students, and staff thrive. Before joining Hexter, I was told it was a grass roots neighborhood school with a strong community. I couldn’t agree more. Our Hawk community is a village, and we all pull together for our Hawks.  Volunteering at Hexter is important to me because it is the place my son calls home base during the day.  So many ways to get involved- Go to the library and shelve books, monitor cafeteria duty, stuff Tuesday folders in the office, or just reach out and ask what needs to be done!

Congrats to our 2024 Hexter Howl Costume Winners!

So many amazing participants this year.  Congrats to our costume winners!

Meet our Featured Veterans- Thank you for your service and for your contribution on the PTA Board!
Tom Moisuk

Tom served in the US Army as a paratrooper.  The military was part of his family's heritage.  Being in the military shaped who he became as a parent as he learned you often need to throw your plans out and be prepared to improvise on a moment's notice.  When asked what advice he would give a child interested in the military, he said to "try to imagine what you want to do when you grow up and what you would want to do after you get out of the military.  There is a good chance that both of those things can happen at the same time.  There are many different types of jobs to do in the military from aircraft mechanic, vehicle mechanic, lawyer, medic or doctor, or an accountant."

Rico Wright

Rick served 8 years in the marines.  To him, the marines represent a brotherhood he will be part of for life.  Being in the military shaped who he became as a parent as it taught him how to lead his children, not to  boss his children.  He is willing to show his kids discipline, but also get his hands dirty with them (i.e. chores around the house, school work, sports, and church.)   When asked what advice he would give a child interested in the military, he said "I would suggest the Naval Academy or Airforce Academy as it will allow them to finish college and become an officer at the same time. "

Hospitality Update

Dust off those family recipe books as it’s almost time for Hexter’s Annual Thanksgiving Potluck.  This is a fan favorite with our amazing Hexter Staff!  Keep an eye out for the signup in the next week or two.  Adrianne is looking for a few extra Hawks to help with setup and to decorate for the potluck.  So, If you are interested in helping, please reach out to Adrianne at hexterhawkptahospitality@gmail.com

Hospitality is also looking for any local businesses or individuals that would like to sponsor part (or all) of a meal, provide a special treat, mailbox flair or even a fun experience for our Hexter staff.
