Hexter Hawks December 2024 Newsletter
Message from the President

Happy December Hawks!

Can you believe we're nearly halfway done with the school year?!

November was a great success! A special thanks to our VP of Hospitality, Adrianne Graham, who pulled out all the stops to ensure our teachers and staff felt the love with an amazing Thanksgiving potluck. Thanks to all the families who donated a dish- our teachers and staff were well-fed! And thank you to Lisa Causey, VP of Programs, who put on a great Veteran's Day program. Our kids made over 500 holiday cards which will be sent to our troops overseas this holiday season.

And to reiterate what our VP of Volunteers, Keith said at our last PTA Meeting. Volunteers are the bloodline of our PTA organization. Without volunteers, there would be no us!

Looking forward to this coming weekend, where we will have our FIRST Holiday Extravaganza. At this event we will have FREE pictures with Santa, decorating of the fence, return of the holiday market (my kids did Christmas shopping with their allowance last year!), and a screening of Elf in the back teacher parking lot. This is sure to be a festive event and we can't wait to host all of you.

I truly hope all of you are enjoying this newsletter and find it useful. If you ever have any suggestion for interviews, nominations for Volunteer of the Month, or any questions, feel free to reach out!

Volunteer of the Month

Meet our volunteer of the month, Jessica Abbondanzio. Jessica is being recognized for her selfless contributions to so many things: Coins for Custodians, Teacher's Lounge, Library volunteering, Tuesday folders, and the list goes on.  Here are some words from Jessica on what volunteering means to her.

I have a personal love for Hexter, since I was a student here myself from Kindergarten through 3rd grade.  I formed great friendships and found it was such a wonderful community. Now to have my twins here as Kindergartners, it is really neat to see them walk the same halls, even if it is for only one year before the building comes down.

When I was a teacher myself, I always appreciated the parental volunteers. I am so happy to be able to give back now and be one of the parental volunteers at this stage of life.

Meet our crossing guard, Lonnie Jackson!

Lonnie brightens all of our days with his genuine smile and friendly demeanor.  Here are some words on what Hexter means to him:

I have been a school crossing guard for Hexter Elementary for ten months. I love greeting the parents and kids and also making sure they cross the street safely. My favorite pastime is working on my project, which is my old school car. My favorite school memories are when the kids give me little drawings of me crossing pedestrians across the street with my stop sign.

Veterans Day Recap

Thank you Hexter families!  The Potluck was a huge success because of y’all!  Thank you to all who brought food, drinks, decor, volunteered and everything else in between.   We could not have pulled it off without you.  Seriously… THANK YOU!

Your Hexter teachers and staff were in awe over all the wonderful dishes y’all provided and extremely thankful for everything.  There was a lot of love to go around.  What a wonderful way to show them how much we appreciate all they do!  Thank you!

Happy Holidays Hawks!
