Hexter Hawks January 2025 Newsletter
Message from the President

Welcome back to school Hawks, and welcome to 2025! We hope everyone had a fantastic and restful Winter Break and got to spend quality time with their family and friends.

December was a month to remember! From a visit from Santa at our Holiday Extravaganza, to classroom parties, our volunteers really helped bring the Holiday cheer to our campus.

Looking forward to this month, and gearing up for what we have in store for the Spring. Be on the lookout and be sure to mark your calendars for our annual Silent Auction, on February 22nd. Book those babysitters now, and pick out your best outfit, as we will be celebrating in true old Hollywood style. We can't wait to boogie with you all on the dance floor!

Keep an eye out for communication as we begin to ramp up and prepare for our 17th Annual White Rock Home Tour. We are actively looking for volunteer docents to fill those shifts, and this year, it is a competition! The White Rock Home Tour is our PTA's largest fundraiser, and we rely on funds raised by this event to fund a large portion of our programming.

Stay warm, everyone, and Happy New Year!

Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities

A huge thank you to all of our volunteers that supported our Hexter events during 2024!  As we move into 2025, please be on the lookout for volunteer opportunities for our Hexter Silent Auction as well as our White Rock Home Tour.

Our volunteer of the month is Kathleen Forrester! Kathleen was nominated by our Hexter Libarian, Yasmeen Youngblood, for her dedication to helping in the library every day.  From shelving books, organizing material to working one on one with our little Hawks, Kathleen does it all.  Please give Kathleen a huge thank you when you see her.  Also be on the lookout for more insights from Kathleen regarding her volunteer time.

How long have you worked at Hexter?   This is my 10th year working at Hexter.

What does a day in the life at work look like for you? I love getting to work early (between 6:45-7:00). The first thing I do is look to see which teachers/staff is going to be out and if they have a substitute or if I need to plan coverage. Once 7:30 hits and we open the doors, then it is non-stop for me until 4:00. Some of my daily tasks include keeping Principal Smith's calendar and scheduling her appointments, ordering supplies, processing employee payroll, monitoring campus budgets, Title I Compliance Documentation, processing fundraising requests, and updating the school website and calendar.  Of course, these are not all done every day, but I break them up throughout the week to work on them.

What does being a part of Hexter mean to you? I absolutely love being part of Hexter; it is family to me. I grew up in the neighborhood and my brothers, son, and daughter all attended Hexter. I have met so many amazing families that I now call friends. I couldn't imagine working at any other campus.

What do you like to do in your spare time?  I love to cook, read, and binge watch murder mystery type series. I also love spending time with my son, Christopher, and daughter, Annabelle, who attend Bryan Adams. I like to watch my daughter play Volleyball.

Hospitality Update

The last week before the break we treated the amazing teachers and staff with a delicious fajita bar and an apple bar!  Everyone was so thankful for the extra bit of love just before the holiday break.   (Pics below)

Also, friendly reminder that the lounge wish list is still active!   Want to send a snack?  Just click the link to help stock the lounge.   If you have anything else in mind, you are more than welcome to drop it off at the front office.  ;). Thank you to all who have sent drinks, coffee and snacks.  We appreciate you!
