Hexter Hawks February 2025 Newsletter
Message from the President

Happy February, Hawks!

There are so many things to be excited about this Spring!

Are you ready for the Silent Auction?! Your committee, chaired by Susan Morales, has been hard at work planning a memorable evening full of dancing, food, and fun! This year's event is Saturday, February 22nd from 7 to 11 p.m. at Taco Lingo.  Thank you to room reps for organizing the classroom art and organizing the grade level baskets. I’ve gotten a couple of sneak peaks at the art and baskets heading to the auction block- get those bid cards ready folks because there are going to be some really fun items up for grabs! If you haven't already, click here to buy your tickets now!  See you all on the dance floor! I mean it… it’s sort of my thing.

In addition to the Silent Auction, planning for the White Rock Home Tour, chaired by Chanda Rousseau, has hit the ground running. This is our largest fundraiser of the year, and we have to fill hundreds of volunteer slots to pull it off! Make sure you’ve signed up for a docent slot- not only will you get FREE entry to all of the White Rock Home Tour, but your participation will count towards a potential reward for your Hawk! (Free dress, anyone?!) Keep an eye on our socials, be sure to follow the White Rock Home Tour on Facebook and Instagram… or even head over to www.wrhometour.com to purchase your tickets. Houses for this year’s Tour will be announced soon! Help us spread the word!

Lastly, the PTA is so thrilled to be helping Ms. Schaaf with the school’s musical performance, Finding Nemo Kids!  Casting decisions have been made and rehearsals began this week.  The fine arts bring so much enrichment to our student’s lives, and we’re proud to be able to help. Thank you, Ms. Schaaf, for all your work and for bringing musicals back to our campus!

Phew, that was a LOT! I hope to see you at our upcoming events. And, as always, if you have any suggestions, questions, or comments, please feel free to reach out!

Volunteer of the Month

Our February volunteer of the month is Adrianne Graham!  Supporting teachers, staff, students and at our events, Adrianne is an integral part of Hexter Elementary.  Let's hear from her on why she is committed to supporting Hexter....

I have been a part of the Hexter family since 2021, when our oldest daughter (Sabine) started kindergarten.  Ever since then, the teachers and staff have been extremely welcoming, helpful, kind, understanding and very supportive.  I really enjoy volunteering at Hexter as it brings me joy to give something back to all those who have done so much for us.  I also love volunteering with other Hexter families as it's the best way to meet others that want to give back to our sweet school.  Over the years, I have volunteered for PTA events, school events, field trips, class parties, auctions, and everything else in between. This year I took on the role of the PTA's Hospitality Chair.  As hospitality chair, I help shower the teachers and staff with appreciation throughout the year.  This includes providing holiday meals, lounge snacks, mailbox treats, teacher appreciation week and much more.  I have truly enjoyed being a part of the PTA this year. It's been such a wonderful experience!  It's heartwarming to be a part of such a fantastic group of people who love our school as much as I do. One of my favorite volunteering moments that made me smile was the Thanksgiving potluck for the Hexter staff.  It took a village of volunteers to put that on and to see how everything just came together was amazing.  To top it off, the entire staff was very appreciative and everyone was all smiles.  That day was truly the best!

Outside of volunteering at Hexter, I love to spend my time with our 3 wildly amazing kids. Sabine is in 3rd, Bowie is in Kinder and Luna is rockin' pk-3.  Luna has been my volunteer sidekick and is excited to (hopefully) be at Hexter next year.  Which means our family will be around for a while, and I'm pretty excited about that!  I also love to garden, find new adventurous places to take the kids and occasionally play some video games after the kids go to bed. ;).  Volunteering comes in many forms and I encourage each and every Hawk to volunteer for something. I promise it will be worth it. Each time I volunteer, I walk away feeling so proud to be a part of such a fantastic school.

“Many eyes go through the meadow, but few see the flowers in it”  ― Ralph Waldo Emerson

Meet our music teacher, Kelly Schaaf

What does Hexter mean to you?  To me, Hexter means community. Just walking down the halls in the morning and hearing everyone greet each other warmly shows that our students are wonderful, and our faculty and staff are as well!

What makes you excited about Finding Nemo being the musical chosen for this year?  I love the message of Finding Nemo: ‘Just Keep Swimming’. Even when times are tough, we can achieve great things if we push forward and try our best.

What does a day in the life look like for you at work?  My typical day at Hexter includes 6 classes ranging from PreK-5th grade! I can go from singing ‘The Wheels On The Bus to teaching about the Baroque Period! There’s always a wide range of subjects to cover each day.

What do you do for fun outside of work?  Outside of work, I like to sing and dance in musicals! I’m pretty much singing and dancing all day, at school and at rehearsals!
