Hexter Hawks November 2025 Newsletter

A Note from the President

Hello Hexter Hawks!

It’s hard to believe we’re already heading into November—this school year is flying by! As we move into the season of gratitude, I want to take a moment to reflect on a few incredible highlights from October and share what’s coming next.

October Highlights

Hexter HOWL = A Huge Success!
Thank you to everyone who helped bring our biggest event of the fall to life! Special shoutout to our incredible event chair, Chandler Pryor, for her leadership, creativity, and her last-minute pivot to move everything indoors when the weather didn’t cooperate. It was no small feat—but our kids had an unforgettable night!

Thank you as well to the entire team of PTA helpers, parent volunteers, and staff who made it all happen—from setup to cleanup and everything in between. And how about Mighty Mike’s performance? A crowd favorite and a big hit with students and parents alike!

Hexter Spirit Night – Burger Schmurger (Oct 28)
A big thank-you to all the families who came out and supported our October Spirit Night at Burger Schmurger! Good food, great company, and school spirit—what more could we ask for?

Looking Ahead to November

Hexter Spirit Night – Birdies Eastside (Nov 5)
Our next Spirit Night is coming up quickly! Join us on Tuesday, November 5 at Birdies—a perfect chance to connect with fellow families and help raise money for our school in a fun, relaxed setting.

PTA Thanksgiving Potluck Lunch – Nov 19
We’re excited to bring our community together for a special Thanksgiving Potluck Lunch for Hexter staff and teachers on Tuesday, November 19. Be on the lookout for sign-up details—we’d love your help making this event extra memorable for our educators.

General PTA Meeting + 1st Grade Performance – Nov 20
Our next General PTA Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, November 20, and features a special performance from our amazing 1st graders! It’s a great opportunity to hear updates, get involved, and enjoy some serious cuteness on stage.

As we approach Thanksgiving, I’m feeling especially grateful for this amazing community. The energy, generosity, and love you bring to Hexter is felt in every hallway, classroom, and event. Thank you for showing up for our kids—and for each other.

Here’s to a season filled with gratitude, community, and continued HEXELLENCE.

Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities

Hexter Reflections Program

Each year, the Hexter Reflections Program encourages students to explore their creativity and express their voices through the arts. Guided by this year’s theme, “I Belong!”, students created projects in dance, photography, literature, film, and visual arts. Over the past five weeks, participants met after school in a collaborative environment supported by volunteers Juliana Shoumbert and Rebecca Pearce, who shared some reflections of their own below.

“Volunteering with the Hexter Reflections Club this year was such a rewarding experience! I loved watching students from different grades come together to collaborate and express themselves creatively. It was inspiring to see them encourage one another and build community.”
Juliana Shoumbert, Reflections Volunteer

“It was wonderful to offer a club option for students who didn’t make it into the other lottery clubs. Students from all grades mixed, helped each other, and let their creativity run wild! Hosting the club in the garden made it even more special—students could wander to quiet spots to focus on their art.”
Rebecca Pearce, Reflections Volunteer

Hexter Reads Program – coming soon

As the Reflections Program wraps up, we’re excited to launch the upcoming Hexter Reads Program! This initiative will pair volunteers with students for reading support and tutoring. Details are coming soon—if you’re interested, please email volunteerhexter@gmail.com with “Hexter Reads Program” in the subject line.

Have you completed your 25/26 Voly Check?

💙 Volunteer of the Month: Cathleen Forrester

We’re celebrating Cathleen, our Volunteer of the Month, for her countless contributions to Hexter—including the many hours she spends helping in the library. Her dedication, positivity, and support make a lasting impact on our students and staff every day. Here are some words on what volunteering means to her.

“Volunteering at Hexter has made me realize just how much work our teachers, staff, and administrators put in to ensure every student has the opportunity to succeed. Their dedication goes well beyond the dismissal bell—teaching truly is a calling.

To me, volunteering means doing whatever I can to help make their jobs a little easier.

There are so many moments that make me smile during my days at Hexter! Most recently, I saw a student’s face light up when he found a newly released book he’d been waiting for. And there’s nothing better than the high fives and hugs from students I’ve gotten to know in the library.”
