💙New Year, New Adventure! Elevating the Hexter Experience.

Message from the President

Happy New Year, Hexter families! We hope everyone enjoyed a restful winter break and quality time with loved ones. We’re excited to welcome students and staff back as we kick off January—especially as we return together in our new school building. Thank you for your continued support and involvement as we begin a new year at Hexter.

Students return to school on Tuesday, January 6, and we’re looking forward to a great start to the semester.

Please mark your calendars for the following January dates:
• Friday, January 16 – Coffee with the Principal
• Monday, January 19 – MLK Day (No School)
• Thursday, January 22 – General PTA Meeting, 6:30 p.m.
• Friday, January 23 – Fashion Friday
• Friday, January 30 – Lunch with a Loved One

We hope you’ll join us for Coffee with the Principal on January 16. This is a great opportunity to connect, ask questions, and hear updates on what’s happening around campus.

Our January General PTA Meeting will be held on Thursday, January 22 at 6:30 p.m. We’re excited for our first meeting in the new School and to share more details on our upcoming events: 2026 Auction and White Rock Home Tour!

Don’t forget Fashion Friday on January 23—always a fun way for students to show their Hexter spirit—and Lunch with a Loved One on January 30. More details will be shared as the date approaches.

Thank you for being such a supportive and engaged community. We look forward to seeing everyone back on campus and starting the new year strong!

Hexter Volunteers Make a Big Impact!

Shout-Out to the Hexter Dad’s Club!

The Hexter Dad’s Club recently tackled the not-so-glamorous task of clearing out the PTA shed—dodging bees, spiders, and who knows what else along the way! 🐝🕷️

Huge thanks to Alex Green, Chris Stevens, Jonny Mack, Sam Jones, David Wilson, Kirk Graham, and Adrianne Graham for jumping in to help. Shoutout as well to Travis West and Gary Currie, who weren’t able to make the photo.

We are so grateful for your hard work and willingness to step up for Hexter!

Farewell Walk: A Heartfelt Goodbye.

Our volunteers made the Hexter Farewell Walk truly unforgettable! From greeting guests to helping at photo stations, signing walls, and selling merchandise, they helped create lasting memories for everyone who attended.

Special thanks to students from Bryan Adams High School and Robert T. Hill Middle School, along with volunteers Nancy Sharp, Nicki Sumlin, Susie Kiraly, Rachel Hagstrom, Sarah Denton, Travis Burkybile, Jessica Taylor, and Kelli Odom.

A huge thank you to Valerie Moreno for organizing this meaningful event and giving current and former Hexter students and educators one final walk through the halls of old Victor H. Hexter. Thank you as well to our talented photographer, Nathan Yockey, for capturing these special moments.

We are so grateful to everyone who helped make this event so special.

White Rock Home Tour: Volunteers Are Needed!

The White Rock Home Tour is just around the corner, and we need your help! This is a great opportunity to meet fellow Hexter families, connect with the community, and tour some amazing homes.

Please sign up by grade level using the link below or through your Hexter Membership Toolkit account. Thank you for supporting our school!

Volunteer of the Month: Nicki Sumlin

We’re excited to recognize Nicki Sumlin as our Individual Volunteer of the Month!

Nicki is a familiar face at Hexter events and makes time each year to chaperone at least one field trip for our little Hawks. She says she volunteers because “our kids are only young once”—and, of course, for the snacks!

Nicki loves the wonderful kids and teachers at Hexter and, when she’s not volunteering, enjoys football and travel (both involving yelling and questionable snack choices).

Every hour of volunteering makes Hexter stronger. Thank you, Nicki, and thank you to all our amazing volunteers!

Car Line Helpers Needed!

Hexter Hawks, we’re looking for parent volunteers to help with morning car line drop-off! Just a little time in the morning makes a big difference in keeping our students safe and traffic moving smoothly.

We’d love to start this Wednesday. If you’re able to help, please sign up using the link —your support is greatly appreciated.

Spotlight on Events:

Winter & Spring PTA Programs

We have several exciting programs coming next semester, and we need your help to bring them to life!

If you’d like to support or volunteer with any of the following:

  • 6th Grade Parent Committee

  • Hexter’s Got Talent

  • Science Night

  • LoterĂa Night

  • And many more special events…

Please consider completing the interest form.

Matilda Auditions

“Matilda Kids” auditions begin Thursday, January 8, from 3:30–5:30 PM for 4th–6th grade students only.

Audition packets were sent home before the break and include an audition form.  Students will sing required songs (noted on form) and read from the provided scenes during auditions.

Approximately 35–45 students will be cast. Rehearsals will take place Thursdays after school (3:30–5:30 PM) starting January 15 through the second week of May.

Questions? Contact Ms. Schaaf at kschaaf@dallasisd.org.

Note: 2nd and 3rd graders will have an opportunity to participate in a mini-play in April.

Hospitality Update

Wow—what a month! During the final week before the break, your PTA spoiled our incredible teachers and staff with two days of treats and some fun mailbox flair. The fan-favorite Apple Bar made a return (think nacho bar, but with apples!), followed by a delicious lunch from Resident Taqueria. To top it off, staff received a sweet mailbox surprise to close out the week. (Pics below!)

Our staff has worked tirelessly through the move into the new building and deserves all the love. If you’d like to help, please check out the staff wishlist or drop off items at the front office labeled Hospitality. We’ll continue updating the list as we stock both of our new staff lounges—yes, Hexter now has two!

Thank you to everyone who has donated drinks, coffee, and snacks. It truly means more than you know—snacks + love = smiles!

Teacher Appreciation Week Help Needed (May 4–8):
We’re looking for two volunteers to help plan and organize this special week. If you love brainstorming ideas, organizing, or finding great deals (bonus!), we’d love to have you. Reach out by email, call, or text if you’re interested—or if you have ideas to share.

Thank you for being such an amazing part of our Hexter Family 💙

Howdy Hexter—let’s get rowdy! 🤠

Our annual Hexter Elementary School Auction is right around the corner, and it’s shaping up to be a rootin’-tootin’ good time in support of our school.

Early bird tickets and drink ticket sales will be available next week, so keep an eye out—you won’t want to miss this fun-filled night!

We’re also wranglin’ up donations and event sponsors. If you have an item, experience, or business to donate—or know someone who may want to sponsor—please reach out to Kelsey Vigilante at hexterauctionchair@gmail.com.

Yeehaw, Hexter families—we can’t wait to see you there!
